I just got a dell i6000 today. Im satisfied with this product, i just had a few questions though
I was wondering if you could overclock ati x300 64mb to gain performace. Also i read somewhere that when you overclock you void your warranty, i dont really know alot about overclocking but say I do overclock my video card and then if something happens and i just bring the video card back to its old settings, would dell be able to tell that i overclocked the video card and this void the warranty.
I also wanted to know if I could upgrade the screen since I have already got the laptop at home, i didnt quiet have the moeny to go ahead and pay more for the upgradable screen right away, i choose the x64 video card upgrade over the screen upgrade. Im just wondering if theres anyway I could get a screen upgrade from dell later on when i do have the money.
I would appreciate it if you guys could help me out. Thanks
Oh btw, I also wanted help on the touchpad, I am unable to use the scroll function that mouse with the scroll wheel use. Im really not used to taking the cursor all the way to the scroller on the side to scroll, and with the arrows on the touchpad it seems that this notebook does have the scroll feaeture, is there some driver i have to download because I tried everything and I wasnt able to get it to scroll. Thanks

why do you want to overclock? are you gaming?
you can upgrade the screen, but it's probably cheaper to return the notebook to dell and get the upgrade; however, if $ is an issue, you can get a different LCD later on from dell or ebay or similar.
i don't understand your scroll question; you're trying to scroll with a mouse and it's not working? -
You could use atitools for overclocking, but I wouldn't advise it. I'm not voiding my warranty my input.

thanks for your quick replies. When you say that it would be better to return this laptop to dell and get the upgrade, couldnt I do that later also?
as far as gaming is concern, Im not a big gamer, im not planning to run the most power demanding games anyways, im more into games such as nba live, fifa, maybe some strategy games, but it would be nice if i could overclock and run games such as call of duty at low settings.
I didnt mean scrolling on the mouse, i just want to know weather I can use the dell i6000 touchpad to scroll like you do with the wheel on the mouse. I havent been able to scroll like that on the touchpad and i thought it came with that feature.

in webpages? i would reinstall the touchpad drivers. firefox sometimes has a problem with this.

You only have 21 days from shipment date to return your laptop for a refund. If you go past the 21 days, you'll have to buy LCD and install it yourself.
As for overclocking, you can do that, but this will void your warranty.
If you go to the control panel, you can adjust the mouse settings so the scrollpad will work. You should have a tab called gesters, and you'll need to enable the "use scroll function"

Ive had this laptop for about 10 days, im willing to return it. I heard that dell has a 15% restocking fee, does that still hold true if I just get the same laptop with different configurations and return this one? Can I just return this laptop and ask them to modify this current one, will that be more expensive then choosing the upgrade in the first place?
-
You'll have to place a new order when you return it. As for the restocking fee, I've heard different stories on it. According to their policy, you have to pay the fee and shipping costs unless you can prove that something is wrong with the notebook and it is dell's fault.

I just returned a 9300 and an exchange 9300 2weeks ago becuase I could not calibrate the monitor and we were getting the BSOD constantly. There was no restocking fees...
We just ordered the I600 wuxga, 2.13, 1gb, 128vid, 100gbhd and dvdburn for 1290.00 and no TX taxes..... -
wow thats a sick deal. I dont think ill be able to get that in Canada, the thing is im still under my 21 day return policy and dell has released a new coupon of 450 off on 1500 + inspiron notebooks, that deal is overall a cheaper one for me so im kinda confused.
