I want to do a clean install of windows. I called and they told me that they no longer offer windows install cds and that it is located on a partition on the harddrive. Will I be able to do a clean install of windows with this partition? Or will I have to order a XP CD from newegg?

Also I want to get 2 GB of 667 RAM where is the cheapest place to get it at? I couldn't find anything.

    Blargh!

I was hoping my E1705 would be coming with a Windows CD. I guess not.

Demand a CD. They have them, trust me. There is no need to keep an OS you PAID fro from you. Try the Chat support, I usually find them to eb very helpful.

Yeah When I got my dell a week ago I was so amazed at the massive amount of bloatware, compaired to my acer, it was unbelievable! I would call dell up and try also, if you bug them they will give in.

I called twice and they said microsoft no longer offers os cd's to them. It sucks that now I have to pay for two version of windows. BTW which is better for gaming Media Center or Home?

I would go for Media Center I have not used it yet, but I hear it includes many more features then xp and should be better. I doubt either one would make a difference when running games.

The E1705 that I received last week had the XP Pro CD included. That one is going back due to a bad LCD. The replacement arriving today has the same specs for an XP Pro CD.

On the system details from the service tag:

    UT879 KIT, SOFTWARE, OVERPACK, WXPPSP2, COMPACT DISKETTE W/DOCUMENTATION, ENGLAND/ENGLISH

    and on the shipping slip:

310-6845 Backup media for XP Pro

Well I just saw that in small writing that it does include the CD. I will wait until I get my laptop before I buy one.

Does anyone know where I can get cheap ram for it though? I can't find any on newegg.
