Hey, My Studio 1555 came in today and I want to get rid of the bloatware.
Yes, I'm aware of the other topics but I couldn't find an answer in any of them =(

So let me get this right, All I have to do is put the Dell Vistra Reinstallation CD in and follow the prompts?
Then go to the Dell website and download all the drivers from there?
Will dell miss out on any drivers on their website?

I read somewhere that without the MediaCenter3 and the AHCI the laptop will go slower?
I did not get either of those disks with my Studio =/

    Cheers :)

Your going to want to either load drivers and software to a USB Flash stick after downloading them from the Dell website or use the Drivers and Software cd provided by Dell. ( I believe it is grey)

It should not "slow" it down per say but AHCI can sometimes speed up performance and it is better to keep it enabled if its already set (install the drivers)

Getting rid of media direct may be a pain in the long run but is ok to do

Alright thanks for the reply :)

So as long as I use all the driver CD's that came with the laptop I wont be missing any?

What does Media Centre do exactly?
Is there any other way I can download MC3 and AHCI?

I would wait for a second or third response to double check though :)

The Drivers CD should contain all drivers for a X86 (32bit) OS

Its kinda like a stripped down xp that you can boot up for media. Its kinda useless but if you delete the partition you can run into trouble if you accidentally click the Media center button when the system is off (if you have one)

You do not have to install it in the OS though

The MediaDirect partition doesn't really do anything useful. I deleted mine. Your system will not run any slower without it.

Also, AHCI mode is on by default, and Vista has AHCI drivers integrated, so you don't need to anything with that. After installing Vista, I recommend going to Dell's support page and downloading all the latest drivers instead of using the ones from the CD; the ones online will be the most up to date.

I don't think the Studio 1555 has a Media Centre button, but I could be wrong.

Also...are you TezzaLovesBarryB? I know a Tezza from Australia from another board
