    1. How hard is it to switch in the RAM?
    2. Are their any free guides on the internet?
    3. Will it void my warranty?
    4. Is their any risk of breaking something else if not done carefully enough?

thanks and all these questions are for switching RAM on an Inspiron 1520

    1. easiest upgrade on a computer. 5 minutes max if it's your first time
2.there are plenty, even videos on youtube.
    3.no.
4.the only risk is your body transfering electricity onto the ram which can be easily avoided by touching any grounded metal boject.(you would have to wrestle with the RAM to break it )

    hope this helps
    good luck on your upgrade

    EDIT:
here's a link to a video that should explain it step by step. VERY EASY.

There are also instructions for replacing pretty much any component in the service manuals on the support section of the Dell website.
