Hey all 1st the joke..
Been to the official Dell forums these days? Seems alot of people are saying "x" dont work and that their 1 yr just ran out, making their system out of warrenty..
Makes you really think back to the legend about how people make items that they know will break in a year.. Its no wonder they push for "extra service" options.. heh.. Just think its funny that it seems alot of laptops are getting issues after their year is up.
Anyways question. On my new Dell, when I logged into my account. Went to my system and prefs etc, which I had already added the service tag etc. However I was greeted by a popup that talked about how my account is eligeable for Gold Service or Platinum. Whats this all about? Is this a extra fee or something? I couldnt try to register for it because said the system was down for that.. but not sure if thats something I paid for already or if thats just dell offering extras.. I know I paid for a 3 yr option etc.
Here are the things I ordered when I 1st made the order. I am assuming from what I was told I am covered for 3 years incase I need tech support or if the laptop or items go defective. True?
3 Year Limited Warranty
Warranty Support,2 Year Extended
Warranty Support,Initial Year
Dell Hardware Warranty PlusOnsite Service, Initial Year
Type 15- Third Party At HomeService with Nights and Weekends, 24x7 Technical Support,Initial Year
Dell Hardware Warranty PlusOnsite Service, Extended Year
Type 15- Third Party At Home Service with Nights and Week ends, 24x7 Technical Support, 2 Year Extended
Now this looks abit nice and complete.. however when I logon to my dell account I see this.
Limited Technical Support DELL 5/14/2006 5/14/2007 354
Next Business Day DELL 5/14/2007 5/13/2009 730
Next Business Day, Includes Nights/Weekends DELL 5/14/2006 5/14/2007 354
Technical Support - Phone Assistance DELL 5/14/2006 5/14/2007 354
Technical Support - Phone Assistance DELL 5/14/2007 5/13/2009 730
Kinda looks confusing and I am not sure how they label all these things.. would you say I have a 3 year warrenty for parts and labor if something goes wrong with the laptop itself? Where I would be sent a new one if needed? (Note issues that arent caused by me, I dont have the insurance)
So yea.. between that and this whole gold/platinum thing I am abit confused on..
Also is there a way I can add the insurance still? Been mulling it over and it didnt fit my budget when I 1st ordered it.. but kinda thinking about doing it now, is there a time limit to do it or how would you go about this? Thanks.
Questions about warrenty and tech support options + a joke.
