Hello guys, need a cooling system for my dell notebook 1530 and had 5 questions, Thanks a lot.
1. Which is the best cooling pad for the dell 1530 notebook? and will the 1530 fit?
2. I saw some cooling pads to have a slight angle and not totally flat, and example of this would be the zalman cooling pad. Will this damage the notebook?
3. I also heard that if you buy the wrong cooling pad, it can actally damage the notebook more than help it. Is this true? and if it is, can you tell me which ones NOT to buy.
4. Which cooling pad makes the lease amount of noise? and does the fans on the cooling pads make a lot of noise in general?
5. does all these cooling system use a usb connected to you computer to get power? If not, which is better usb or non usb?
6. last question is, dell is selling a targus cooling system in their webpage, is this any good? http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...x?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A1222334#Overview
Thanks a bunch guys, really need some info here
Thanks!

I have the Zalman ZM-NC1000 which I use with my Alienware M7700 and it does seem to help a bit. It is USB powered and has 1 USB port so you don't loose a port. The fans are quiet and their speed can be ajusted.
I don't know if there's any laptop which have exhaust loacted at the bottom of the case but one was designed that way that could be a problem when using a cooling pad.
When I finally get my final M1530 (replacement) I will not use the cooling pad. It will be sold with the Alienware.
Hope this helps. -
got confused on waht you said there bro, but are yous aying the zalman is bad or good for the 1530? and why are you selling your cooling pad.
Need more help on my questions, thanks all appreciate it -
can someone clear up that myth of cooling pads actually damaging the notebook? thanks
and if you guys can anwser the rest of my questions, thanks -
hi,
the vostro has a good thermal design, cause of his bulkiness and large formfactor.
You normally don´t need a cooling pad for this model.

I have the Zalman ZM-NC1000 also that I use with my 1400. I haven't taken any actual temp readings but my 1400 seems to run pretty cool by itself without the cooler. I don't know if I really need a cooler at all. Without the cooler, the bottom of my 1400 gets only slightly warm. With the cooler, the bottom hardly gets warm at all so I know it works. The Zalman is very well built and runs very quiet, it also looks very sharp. I bought it because it was on sale and I figure anything that will help keep your laptop cooler will be a benifit.

how well does you 1400 fit on it from mreasurements seems like my 1500 wont fit on it

People are saying its 1 inch too narrow on 17 inch widescreens, so I'm assuming a 15 inch would work perfectly or close to it

Oh, I forgot to mention that Zalman fits my 1400 almost perfectly, like they were made for eachother. Their widths are "exactly" the same and the Zalman is a little longer in depth. However, the air vent holes on the cooler only extends about 2/3 back from the front and doesn't catch the some of the rear portion of the notebook. I've read this criticism somewhere else, I think it was on this forum somewhere. Do an advanced search on here for "Zalman" and you will get a bunch of threads. The black version of the Zalman matches the flat black finish on the Vostros and they also come in silver which might match the finish of the Inspirons. The usb ports on my 1400 is on the same side right above the usb ports used to power the cooler. Zalman also has another larger version, ZM-NC2000 I think. Check the Zalman website. I paid $35 for mine after discounts($60 regular price). At first I thought it was kinda expensive but after using it I don't regret the purchase at all. It has a very good design and is well built, a quality product not a cheap novelty. One more thing to mention. I also have an Antec cooler which I bought previous to the Zalman. The main difference is the direction of airflow. The Zalman pulls cold air form under itself and blows it up under the notebook while the Antec pulls air from under the notebook and vents it out the side of itself. My 1400 pulls air from under itself and vents it out the side(I think most all notebooks are the same). I don't know how this affects the effectiveness of cooling but I read somewhere about the controvery this, the pushing of air in the same direction of the notebook's cooling system vs. the pulling of air from the notebooks cooling system. Different coolers have different airflow designs and may be something to consider when looking for one. Another difference is the wedged shape design of the Zalman which tilts the keyboard more like a desktop keyboard and makes for a more comfortable angle.

I got my replacement M1530 last night and the left side palm rest (where the hard drive is) was running quite hot. So I decided to give a try to the Zalman cooler. left side palm rest is now almost as cool as the right side one. That with the cooler fan running at minimum speed.
So much for my statement about the M1530 running cool enough...
Guess I'm keeping the Zalman. The M1530 sits on it with less that half inch sticking out on each side.
