First off, the options you are able to choose from include:

    a) Power Saver
    b) Balanced
    c) High Performance

You are able to select either of these options when it is plugged in or if you are using the battery (although I don't see why anyone would want to use power saver or balanced when your laptop is plugged in). Personally, I use power saver when I'm running on the battery. I would save it increases my battery life by about 30%.
