Hi everybody, I'm in the new process of buying a laptop (duh :p) and I was considering the m1530. My question is regarding the fact it doesn't come with a DVI port. I do have a 22 inches lg L226wtq screen at home and I would like to plug my laptop on it when I'm home. That being said, my LG screen doesn't have an HDMI port, so I do have a DVI cable. Since I won't be able to plug it into my laptop directly, I will have to use an adaptor... Am I gonna lose any quality and most importantly speed if I use an adaptor to connect in my laptop? And also, if I upgrade to the 8600GT, can I expect good fps and decent settings while gaming?

    Thanks in advance :)

I have a 22" LCD that has a DVI port. I first bought a DVI->HDMI adapter but that was very ulgy. Your best bet is to get a DVI->HDMI cable from ebay. You can get a very nice Monster one for about $5 + shipping. Here is a link to one that might interest you.

You will not lose any video quality. The advantage of HDMI over DVI is that HDMI can also transport audio - while DVI can only transport video.

Also - PLEASE spent the extra $100 to get the 8600MGT with your original configuration - or else you will be sorry. It is a very nice card and you will get way better Vista performance and Gaming performance over the 8400!!

The most demanding games I'll run on this are probably games like UT and Oblivion maybe and man, I can't believe your cable costs 5$ when my dvi cable costed me 60 bucks... :\

Return it (to Best Buy right?) And get one off ebay. You may end up paying $15-$20 for everything (shipping) But you can get a real nice cable!

Yes I'll return it for sure (from a local store here, not Best Buy). And can I have your opinion on the fact Dell doesn't sell any laptop with a 8800 instead of a 8600? Do you actually think you really got less in terms of gaming power because of that?

Don't believe all that marketing. The hdmi cable either works or it doesn't. Its digital, your not affecting the 1s and 0s. All that plated and extra working is just to make it sound cool so they can cost more. Always buy your cables online. I got my dvi to hdmi cable 16ft for $10 including shipping. Check Newegg.
