    Im planning on getting a vostro with the 8600M GT but I was wondering if upgrading the graphics card is possible down the road??

    In theory, yes, but you'll have to get another DELL Graphics card as Dell doesn't use the standard MXM for mobile graphics cards.

    I don't know if anyone on this forum has done this before.

    I'm going to try to eBay a 9600M GT from a Dell Vostro 1500 or Inspiron 15XX once those are out and see if it works or not.

    Well, even if Dell used MXM it would still need to be supported in the BIOS, which is the real problem with trying to upgrade graphics in Dell notebooks....

    Well, if Dell actually supported MXM, their BIOS would obviously support it as well (no reason to not support it).

    Also, upgrading to a same class Dell GPU may be possible. Just may be...

    The instructions on Dell's online website even tells you step-by-step how to remove and re-install a GPU on Dell laptops... The only problem you may run into is power supply... The newer GPU's may require more power than what our current laptop PSU is designed to output, and unless you know how to replace the PSU and circuitry of a laptop, I don't think you'll be getting very far with that endeavor.
