I ordered my M1530 about 4 days ago, still in the build stage but I overlooked upgrading the processor. It comes with the base T5550 (1.83GHz/667Mhz FSB, 2MB cache). All I upgraded was the display to 1440x900 and the GPU to the 8600M GT.

I do not plan on doing anything overly intensive but even after I ordered I realized I probably should have upgraded to even the 2.0 core 2 duo. Besides a few light games(think wow), MS office applications and the regular web surfing I am just looking to those of you who have, or know what to expect here. I am really disappointed that I forgot to do it. I would call and try and get it changed but I want to check first to make sure it would be worth the money. As long as it operates at a respectable pace I have no problem, saves me money for an item I do not HAVE to have, but if it is a big matter I may just have to.

I do see that the cache is considerably smaller than most upgrades, but good lord those are expensive in comparison (GHz wise, not cache wise).

Anyway, just looking for a heads up. I do not want to end up with a clunker due to one weak spot.

You won't have any problems with the T5550.

Thanks guys, good enough for me. Quick replies. This is the first time I can say I have ever had a question answered so fast on any forum...ever :)

I am not looking to run Crysis or anything here, so as long as it does I am happy.

    Make that...
I am not looking to run Crysis or anything here, so as long as it does well at most things I am happy.

yeah my c2d 1.5ghz is great for most things im happy with
it out performs my 2.8 p4 with ht and is equal to the pentuim d 2.8ghz 4mb cache
i tried to compress a 4gb file using 7zip and it took 2 hours compared to 3 and 1/2 with the p4 and your cpu is better than mine so youll be happy

I had no idea what Jimmy Johns was, but from their website I got the idea, they are fast! haha. I have never heard so many Roadrunner audio clips in my life. Now, I just hope dell is that fast to warrant that sort of audio... So far I am guessing no.

Sure does make me want a sammich though.

One more question guys, just so I do not have to start a new thread... Can this thing handle asymmetrical ram setups? I see they offer 3GB (since I do not have a 64 vista install).

I got the 2GB which was probably not the best idea in hind sight, but I may buy a single 2GB stick and leave one of the 1GB if so.

I have a Vostro 1500 with a T5270 (1.4GHZ/800mhz FSB) and it's plenty fast for 95% of the things I want to do.

    Doesn't the 1.4 and 1.5 c2d have the 667mhz fsb?

I went from the 1.5 to the 2.0 c2d on my 1520 and noticed a slight increase in performance - mainly on Rainbow 6 Vegas .... not running at 100% cpu power anymore.

As far as the M1530 is concerned the upgrade to 2.0 gives you nothing but the extra Mhz. The FSB speed and cache are the same. Now... the other upgrades have 800 Mhz and 4-6mb cache. But start at a minimum of $175 dollars+ which seems a little ridiculous.
