I have the Vostro 1500. It has the VGA and S-Video outputs.

I want the best image and sound I can get on my TV. TV has DVI. So I'm getting a VGA --> DVI cable for that.

But the audio, what do I do for that? Can I do a headphone jack --> the red and white cables? What about plugging into the s-video output but only plugging in the audio cables?

Could I do the last one while the DVI is connected?

    Thanks.

I don;t know what you mean by that, but the best you can do is DVI for video and headphone jack for audio

VGA to DVI cable isn't going to work. In case with Vostro 1500 if you don't have a VGA input on your display simply get what they call S-Video (it's actually 7 pin interface vs 4 pin S-video) to component video/spdif adapter. This will also give you Dolby Digital/DTS surround compatibility if you have a compatible receiver. Nvidia driver has a nice overscan/underscan utility built in. My 8400M GS can not handle some of the blu-ray/hd-dvd rips when I run it in dual view mode though. I simply switch to clone mode for those videos.

Get the A/V dongle cable from Dell. It plugs into the TV-out port (S-video compatible) and gives you an S-video output, a composite video output, and an SPDIF digital audio output. There is also a similar adapter cable for component output too but it does not have digital audio out. I got one came with my previous Inspiron 8200 and it works in my Vostro 1400. Those cables are decribed in your laptop manual.
