ram clocked at 677 can be used to replace ram clocked at 533 on the e1705 correct? Meaning if I buy an e1705 with 533 ram I can just swap them with RAM 677?

Also would it be worth it to get a hard drive with 7200 rpm instead of 54000? Or could I purchase a cheap hard drive and then replace it later on with one bought from newegg.com?

Dell generally marks up their prices for everything. I am not sure if replacing the HD would void your warranty or not. I spoke to a dell rep saying that you have to contact them on the phone and follow their step by step process and they only accept certain brands. I think the same goes for ram. If you put in a stick of 667 with 533, they will both run at 533. However, put a stick or two of 667 and they will run at 667 I believe. 7200 RPM drives load things faster, faster boot up etc...if you are not too picky stick with the higher capacity 5400 rpm drive.

Go with the default ram and smallest hd if you want to upgrade later; it'll def. be cheaper elsewhwere. However, if you don't want to spend any more money, 533 mem should be fine, but upgrade to the the 7200 hd; it'll be noticeably faster.
