I ordered my 1720 on 7/4, and haven't gotten it yet. I've been wondering how the 2GB of RAM it comes with is arranged in it. Is it 2x1GB or what? where are the empty slots located? On the back or underneath the keyboard?

There are 2 RAM slots, and it's 2x1GB if you get 2GB. One is accessible from the bottom, the other you need to remove the keyboard. I don't think there are any empty slots with any RAM configuration.

So I could easily upgrade to 3gb by switching the RAM in the back.

You don't want to do that. It's set up for dual channel RAM, and that only works with equal RAM installed in both slots. You'll see a performance hit if you switch one to a 2GB.
