    Hi there,

I want to upgrade the ram on an older Inspiron 6400 from 1gb to 2gb. When I look online (including old posts on this site), it seems there are 2 options:

    2 x 1GB Module 1024MB-533MHz DDR2-533 PC2-4200, 200p SODIMM; or
    2 x 1GB Module 1024MB-667MHz DDR2-667 PC2-5300, 200p SODIMM.

Would my system be compatible with either types of ram? It currently runs 2 x 512MB 533MHZ DDR2-533 PC2-4200.

Do I have to stick with the 533 PC2-4200 or can I go for the 667 PC2-5300? What would be the difference?

    Thanks guys

There's not much of a difference. If the laptop can run the RAM at 667 MHz, it will be slightly faster. If not, it will just downclock it to 533.

My lapper is a Inspiron 1501 which is roughly about 90% identical to 6400. 533 ram was the recommended/original configuration to the initial release. But i have tried 667 ram few weeks ago... i didn't see any significant boost in performance. 667Mhz is compatible to Inspiron 1501 or 6400, but it won't make much difference.

I am fixing up a friends E1505 and want to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB of RAM. From what I read I am looking for 2 x 1GB Module 1024MB-533MHz DDR2-533 PC2-4200, 200p SODIMM but I can't find them on newegg or anything (or maybe I am not searching for the right words). Anyone know where I can find them?
