Hi, My Inspiron 1420, T7500 came with a 2 GB DDR2 667MHz two module RAM and I am thinking of replacing one of the 1GB module with a 2 GB module. Currently my RAM is Samsung. I happened to come across this 2GB module (OCZ 2GB PC2-5400 SODIMM 667MHz 200-pin) at http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=204839762 I get it for $20 after rebate, Google checkout, and free shipping. Can I go ahead and order this RAM? Will it be compatible with my existing RAM?

I called up dell tech support and the rep told me this will not be compatible and I should buy it from Dell to be compatible with my laptop. However I just cant believe that... can someone clarify please.... Is OCZ a reputable brand of RAM?

Yeah almost any DDR2 ram(DDR2-667 is recommended) will work fine as nizzy mentioned.

Though make sure you test your RAM with Memtest86+. Run it least overnight.

I ordered it anyway... on its way to deliver... cant believe I am getting a 2GB RAM module for $20!!!!...

Should I really run Memtest86+ over night? if it runs for one hour or so (one full cycle) and did not produce any errors is it possible that it can produce errors later on if we run it for longer periods?
