    Hi Friends

I am having a Dell Inspiron 1520 with windows xp home edition. Since last two weeks i am facing various issues with my hard drive, my laptop frequently hangs even when not much processes are running. I tried to run 'disk check' for errors but it is also not working (some usual windows message ' it will not work when you face a problem  ').
I also ran chkdsk utility with /f and /r option [chkdsk c: /f /r] so that harddisk can be checked at the system startup but at system statrup i get this message "chkdsk utility can not be run for RAW drive" even when file system is NTFS.
I have a feeling that something bad is about to happen to my hard drive.
I will format my system but i thought to post this question here - Can I prevent my hard drive using some software or should i format it... also why suddenly my NTFS partition is converted to RAW.

    Thanks
    Dhruva
