First of all, I have seen and read some of the thread about this. THe thread is really long and some posts are kinda old. I don't want to read the whole thing, so that's why i made a new topic. Please forgive me for making a new topic.

So my M1330 arrived on monday. I love everything about it except the cpu whine. It had no manufacturing defects (that i've seen so far) and man i love it so much. I unfortunately have the whining problem that other people have complained about. My questions are as follows.

    (1) has anyone gotten a system that didn't whine?
    (2) has anyone who had a technician come to them had the problem fixed by the technician?
    (3) I saw something about some program that supposedly fixes the whine. Does that one really work, and does it work at the cost of extra heat and shorter battery life?
(4)Is there a limit to how many exchanges i can make with dell? Cuz i thought a lot about this system and i love it to death, i just don't want to be stuck with a whine, or a defect after 1 or 2 exchanges.

I think that's all the questions I have regarding this issue. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me. And once again, please forgive me for making another post about this ;P.

P.S. If this helps, the processor i have is: Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2MB cache/2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB),

    1. yes but rare...below 50 percent.
    2. Not that Im aware of
    3. Yes shorter battery life because it doesnt allow your system to sleep properly (dropping its energy state)
    4. No

Ok ask yourself this...did you know about the whine before you got the system? That already puts an impression there. Take it to a friend or relative who knows nothing about laptops and ask them to check it out and offer an opinion. Make sure they are honest people who know nothing about the whine.

    Then see if they notice.

If they do...and dont hint or trick them, then you might want to chance an exchange but then you need to hope their arent any other defects.

I feel your pain. When I purchased my 1330, I got a really good deal; however, since that time the price has gone up A LOT. I don't think I would have kept my system if not for the great price.

I guess it is really a compromise - great deal plus an excellent warranty with a few minor quality sacrifices.....

My old laptop used to make a similar sound one in a blue moon. I always asumed it was the broadcom wifi card. THe whine on the m1330 is louder than the one my old laptop used to make (it had a celeron processor in it).

Now allowing the computer to sleep properly. You mean if i put itin sleep mode it won't sleep properly, or do you mean the processor just doesn't power down when it doesn't need to be eating up lots of power. Because i enver use the sleep function, and that wouldn't be a problem. DOes the program cause increased heat? Heat would bother me. ANd approx how much less battery life are we talking? I have a 6 cell and i can easily get 3 hours now. (which i find strange, didn't expect it to be that much :p)

sorry if anything doens't make sense, i'm at work and people are walking by and i'm kinda not working :p.

Just rec'd my 4th replacement laptop from Dell .

Current one: no noise! some really low intermittant static which i'm
trying to eliminate via the environment here.

my advice: return until you are happy. and stay in touch w/Dell. Via their forum. They have Forum Liaisons who are helpful.

Also, i'm curious, did u get a Manual w/M1330. Ws it in English?
if so, see if u can hang on to it. Manuals in English are nowhere to be found.

strange you should ask. Mine was in some language with weird characters. but i contacted them and told them so far i was really impressed with the notebook. But there was 1 problem and i was glad that was the only one. The problem was my manual was in some language which i do not recognize. And they sent me a new one. It's in the mail now. I thought i was the only one who got the bad manual. But I'd choose a bad manual over any other problem thatother people seem to have. Like the lumpy keyboard.

I guess I'm in the fortunate less than 50% who got a notebook without the whine. FYI, mine came with A06 bios so that might have helped.

All Core 2 Duos mobile have CPU whines, at least in the M1330. You can stop it by downloading

Rightmark CPU Utility and selecting "Disable C4"

    Whining will stop
