Hey all, figure if your like me.. you wouldve searched this already. ;)

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2114

You can flash your firmware of your DVD+RW to be RPC 1 (Which means it WONT have the 5 limit region protection! Great if your a import DVD collector etc!)

So just passing this on. I know this is the one that is on the E1505 according to what I see. =)

Hope this helps some of you all out. =)

Hey abit more of a write up for you all... Not only will it be RPC1, but rip lock speeds will be removed, plus better burning support and bitsetting. =)

    - Liggy Firmwares Are Based On Generic Firmwares For NEC-ND 6650A Drives, Therefore It's Ideal Choice If You Are Not Satisfied With Dell Firmwares...
(I Think Better Support For New CD / DVD Medias, New Or Better Burning Strategies, etc...)

    - Also I Recommend You Liggy Firmwares, Because Generic Firmware Updates Are Published More Frequently (And Then Also Liggy Versions), Than From Dell...

    - Dell Firmwares Are Developed By NEC For Dell Company With Slightly Differencies In Compare With Generic / Liggy Firmwares...
(Because Dell Supports Their Own "Business Partners" & It's CD / DVD Medias On The Market, etc...)

    - There Is No Difference In Speed Or RPC1 Functionality Between Dell Or Liggy Firmwares, Except BitSetting Feature, Which Is Liggy Firmwares "Speciality" Only.

    - BitSetting Feature Is Good For Compatibility With Ordinary Desktop DVD Players, So If You For Example Burn DVD-Video Onto DVD+R / RW Media,
Then DVD-Player Detect This Disc As Ordinary "Pressed" DVD, Not As Burned DVD+R / RW Disc DVD Disc...

    - A "Fast" Option Means Removed / Patched NEC RipLock Feature. So Than, You Can Rip / Copy DVD Video Discs At Full Speed As DVD Data Discs...

    - About CrossFlashing...You Can CrossFlash Between Generic / Liggy / Dell Firmwares With No Fear,
Problem Is Only With CrossFlashing Between 1.xx & 2.xx Firmwares, They Are Not Compatible Between Per Se, Because:
1.xx (Or For Dell 1xxc) Firmware Versions Are Strictly For As Master Connected NEC-ND 6650A Drives
    &
2.xx (Or For Dell 2xxc) Firmware Versions Are Strictly For As Slave Connected NEC-ND 6650A Drives
(So All What You Need To Know For Correct CrossFlashing Between Generic / Liggy / Dell Firmwares, Is Current Firmware Version Of Your NEC Drive)

    - First Of All Download NECWinFlash, Which Is Windows Version Of BinFlash:
    http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/utilities/necflash_wingui.zip
(NECWinFlash Is Perfect Tool Because Allows You To Make BACKUP Of Current Firmware In Your Drive,
For Just To Be Sure Or It's Useful For Situations If S*** Happens) Wink

1, UnZip, Run NECWinFlash & Click At Dump Button.
2, Then Standard Save As... Dialog Will Be Appear, So Now You Can Select Your Own Location For Backup / Dump Of Current Firmware From Your NEC Drive.
(Default Name For It Is dump.bin)
3, So Click At Save Button & Wait For Message About Dump Ended Successfully.
4, Okay, From Now If You Want / Need, You Can Everytime Revert Back Your Drive Into Their Original Firmware / State:
Just Run NECWinFlash, Click Flash, Then Standard Open...Dialog Will Be Appear,
So You Can Select & Open Your Backup / Original Firmware File For Flashing Process...

...Now With Backup Created, You Can Begin With Flashing / CrossFlashing "More Safely"...
    - Since You Have Currently In Your NEC ND-6650A Drive 102C Dell OEM Firmware:

    - If You Want To Stay On Dell OEM Firmware, Then Download & UnZip At Yet Latest (RPC1 & Riplock Speed Patch) Version 103c:
    http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/disclaimer/6650/103c_rpc1.zip.html

    Or

    - If You Want To Try Liggy Firmware, Then Download & UnZip At Yet Latest (RPC1, Riplock Speed Patch & BitSetting) Version 1.62:
    http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/disclaimer/6650/162bt_rpc1.zip.html

1, To Flash / CrossFlash Your Drive, Run Again NECWinFlash.
2, Click At Flash Button, Then Open Dialog Will Be Appear, So You Can Locate & Select Your Favorite Firmware (*.bin) File.
3, If You Have Selected Your Favorite Firmware File, Click At Open Button To Start Flashing Procedure...
4, At Next Wait For Message About Successfully Ended Flashing Process.
5, After That Correctly Turn Off Your Notebook...

Just be aware that Dell has stated in the Dell Talk forums that flashing with modified firmware will void the drive's warranty. Assuming they ever bother to check.

    Dave
    NEC 3520A - modified firmware
    Philips 8701 - crossflashed to BenQ 1640
    Sony DW-Q58A - crossflashed to LiteOn SOSW-833S ;)

Thing is, Dell offers the "official" 103c on their drivers section, also rem you can make a backup of your firmware and restore it if needed... so technically, they would not know. ;)

But yea this is good to have for ppl who import dvds, go around the world, or rip dvd to their HD.
