The Inspiron 6000 has two memory slots. Could I use two 2gb memory sticks or am I limited to 1 gb sticks?

I guess it depends on how much your system can handle. My inspiron says that I can only expand my memory to 2GB and I have two memory slots, so I'm guessing that I can either put 1GB in each slot or put 2GB in one slot and leave the other free....? Hope someone helps us with this :) because I don't really know much

According to Crucial: Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

is it the same for dell inspiron b120? I already added 1GB and the other slot is filled with 256mb from the factory. So the B120 can't take 2GB in one slot and leave one free?

You may be able to do this. On my D610 (which has a similar chipset) I've been able to put a 512MB DIMM in one slot, a 2GB DIMM in the other slot, and have it boot and recognize 2GB in BIOS. Don't remember what I got in Windows, but I'm fairly certain it was 2GB as well.

Nonetheless, there isn't really any reason you shouldn't be safe and stick to two 1GB DIMMs, unless you already have the 2GB DIMM on hand.

Plus 2 x 1GB would be beneficial I think; I'll go have a look in a minute at the chipset that machine uses, but if the chipset and the motherboard support dual channel RAM then there is a small performance benefit to having 2x1GB rather than 2GB in one slot.
