So my mom's laptap has continued to get worse. It is an inspiron 1440 with windows 64bit and 2gb of ram.

It started out by sometimes not recognizing half of the ram on startup, but now its actually shut down a few times because the ram just "dissapears" and I'll get the blue screen of death. I can fix the problem for a little while by taking out and re inserting the ram. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    New ram?
    More ram?
    ?

Try running on a single stick of memory and seeing if the problem persists? If it still isn't working with the first stick, try the second stick? If it doesn't work on either stick, you might have a bad board? If you're still under warranty you should call Dell?

    Something like that...
