Just wondering if it is easy to purchase and install the right latentcy ram at a later date?

and can the 2 ea. 512 sticks I pull out of the xps be sold to just folks with a dell or what other machines/manufacturers could use them?

    thanks

It depends on what notebook your trying to do it on. But dell has complete guides online that show you how to do it, and its really not all that hard. Just some notebooks are harder to do it in then others. Like mine for example, you need to remove the keyboard to get to the second slot.

Now you could re-sell the ram to anyone using any machine that uses that ram type. The only thing is that there isnt a real big market for 512mb stickes any more, its really not that much ram. If I were you I would just get the 2gb now because your chances of selling those 512 sticks are low.

if it comes cheaper than buying from on-line stores, yes.

yea, you should be fine doing that. I would get as little RAM as you can from Dell because it is a heck of a lot cheaper to upgrade yourself. Is there any option to get 1x512 MB or 1x1GB?

don't pay for extra ram. dell wanted $300 for 2Gb of ram. I ordered 2Bg of ram from newegg for $200 and put it in myself.
