As I'm gaming, my temps are fine and just slightly overclocked, the laptop will just shut off, no error no BSOD no error reporting when it turns back on by itself.
Im using 175.7 GPU driver w/ Powermizer off, could this be the problem?
-
Does it happen if you don't overclock?
-
Yes. When I do overclock I dont take it that far really to warrant it crashing the system.
-
How far you take it is not really relevent, CPU/GPU are not all made equal... Some will take more and some will take less.
Try the Dell stock drivers. -
No, I cant play with Powermizer.
-
And you can't play if your system shuts down...
-
You mentionned your temps are fine. What are they, say, after 20-30 mins of gaming?
Have you tried rolling back to Dell released 174.31?
What are you using to overclock? Rivatuner? Atitool? Ntune? -
This is bull****, im about one day away from sending this ****ing piece of **** back
I cant find drivers that will just ****ing work with Powermizer disabled. And Yes I REFUSE to play on a laptop that puts my clocks at 160/100 whens ITS ****ING PLUGGED IN! -
Well it may have something to do with power as well and may be shutting down as a random safety measure for something other than heat. Anyhoo, thats why I don't OC.
-
Powermizer kicked on before I ever installed a OC program.
-
As far as the GPU downclocking to 160/100 while the notebook is more or less idleing, this is not a real concern. They will kick back to stock clocks when the power is needed, just as speedstep does on the CPU.
-
No, it wont. They stay on 160/100 when I launch NFS:MW. I play and lag, tab out and bump the clocks back up to stock with ntune, tab back in and get smooth game play for 2 minutes, then drop back down to 8-10 fps and tab out to see im right back at 160/100, my GPU never went over 70c
Those are with the stock drivers. Now im on 175.7 with powermizer disabled stock clocks and I shutdown while playing -
If it does it when you are not Overclocked you have a issue. But my guess is that it is fine, and only does it when you OC. You also did not mention what clocks you are trying to do.
I assume you are running vista? There is no "easy" way to turn off PowerMizer in vista. But you still can, I am pretty sure it is a registry hack. Do some searching around. But having a M1530 has NOTHING to do with having PowerMizer off and on. Other then the fact that it has a Nvidia GPU in it. You could always install XP, and the PowerMizer option is clear as day.
What is the problem with having your clocks @ 160/100 when you are plugged in? You do know those are only 2d clocks correct? And when you are gaming it will go to 475/702.
Just to let you know, I have the same issue with the hard reboots. I cannot OC even close to what others can. But I can play all day @ stock clocks. But not being able to OC to some crazy high numbers, does not justify a return if the computer runs like it should stock. -
Yes, the 175 series, and most of the 174 series Forceware has this issue of downclocking the GPU while on battery power. It's a well known issue in the community. But you mentionned this is happening to you on AC??
What is your 'Stock' version? Try going back to 169 series. Those worked good. Bit less FPS, but no clocking issues. -
Just read your other posts. Are you able to play NFS:MW in a window? If so I would do that, and download GPU-Z. Do not load up any OC'ing software. And while you are playing (with the gaming window active) see what clocks GPU-Z are giving you (make sure you click the checkmark that allows GPU-Z to refresh while it is not the active window). PowerMizer can kick on very very quick, so "alt-tabbing" out of a game and then looking at your clocks can be enough time for PowerMizer to kick your clocks down.
-
Ntune shows 3D Performance clocks, it shows whatever I set my 3d clocks too right when im done.
When I did OC I put it 550/800.
Yes, powermizer bumps my 3D clocks to 160/100 when plugged in. I dont even have the battery in my laptop and powermizer ruins my FPS -
Try 169.09. No powermizer in this one.
-
Again try GPU-Z (just for monitoring, it doesn't really do anything other then that). Ntune is decent, but it is not compatible with all drivers.
I will work with you on the random reboots too. It is a issue I have been trying to figure out myself as well. -
I just read in another thread that you were not able to install 175.16 because no compatible hardware was found.... Use either the Modified INF from Laptopvideo2go. Or if there is a folder called "original infs" use the inf out of there that is named nvdm.inf .
-
Right, when I've been putting the modded INFs in the folder it never overwrites a file so I doubt if thats been working.
The optimal drivers from what I was told is 169.28 correct? I cant get them to install with a modded inf.
Im so ready to send this laptop back and go buy something ATI in it. -
You do know you have to download the Modified INF that is on the same page as the driver you are download correct? As in you cannot (well I should say, should not use), the modified INF from 174.74 with 169.28 for example. If the modified INF is not replacing a file within the folder. Make sure you delete the other inf. If I had the time and was not at work, I would pack up a driver that I know would install.
-
Well so far I got 175.8 installed, and it accutally working quite well for the most part. I seem to get like a huge drop in FPS for a split second and then hop back up. Even just playing NFS:MW at low settings when I get 140fps its still a little jerky.
