I know customizing the BIOS screen is a really old school. Never the less, I was as giddy as a school girl when I found out I could do it to my new XPS M1330. All you need is a usb flash drive, an image editing program, and a copy of the spl2 post bitmap update utility from Dell.com. For my newest screen I went totally geeky, but you can use any image you want though. The last time I did this was like 6 years ago to my Inspiron 4000.
I started with a wide screen vista wallpaper, and layered on the geekdom in Photoshop.

When you are satisfied, flatten your layers, resize the image to 640 x 480 (I also squished mine horizontilly so it's normal when streched). Change the color index to 16 colors, force black and white and then Save As 4 bit bitmap. You can use dither or pattern for a nicer effect.

If you have it set with a BIOS password and press Power or ESC at the password screen it displays for like a minute on the next boot-up (good for if it is ever lost or stolen). Here is the finished product![]()

A bit much for my tastes... but do you have any guides on how to do it?
-
Can't that Void your warranty?

Here is the one that came up when I googled M1330 and change post bitmap, hence my giddy school girlness that Dell still allows this.

Dell originally released the utility so I doubt it would void your warranty, you can remove it easily too. -
That looks absolutely hideous.
