I recently purchased a Vostro (and eagerly waiting upon it :D). When dealing with Dell Customer Service I had some very good staff helping me through the order process as well as some that were abysmal. But on the whole the process on buying the laptop was quite painless despite the fact that I paid through direct deposit.

So I'd like other people to rate the service they've received whilst purchasing from dell recently.

    Cheers,
    Armchair Commando

I am still waiting for a response on the drivers and media direct cd's and no owner's manual or adobe acrobat installed, but the customer support people have been helpful with questions and concerns. They respond faster during the daytime for some reason though. ;)

Its always been hit or miss for me. Though I did return a laptop once, and UPS lost it. I talked to UPS and they wouldnt do anything about it so I call Dell and the guy says, were gonna go ahead and refund your return and we will take the matter up with UPS. Sure cant complain about that!

three main experiences with customer support:

    1) I had my laptop in my backpack, which I forgot about, and I dropped it on its side, vertically, onto a tile floor. Broke one of the screen hinges. The Dell guy was in my dorm, on campus, two days later, and put in a whole new screen housing.

    2) During a restart one time, my computer wouldn't boot all the way, so I realized it was a hard drive problem. I emailed Dell, and the next day I had a 60 GB, 7200 RPM replacement for my broken 40 GB, 5400 RPM drive. Best part is, the old drive started working again that night, so I was able to get all my data off. I even kept the drive for a month longer than Dell asked me to, and although they did call once about three weeks in to make sure I knew to send it back, there were no issues.

    3) I installed the wrong firmware on my optical drive (I is smart), so off went an email to Dell, and the next day I had a newer model of the same drive. Never even asked me to send the old one back.

and of course return shipping was paid for both times.

    clearly, there's a reason I'm buying another Dell :p
