I have inspiron b130. Long story but I need to reload windows but only have one computer and need to have it working as im going through job applications right now. My question is which drivers do i need to download to cd before I reload and lose everything so that it will work properly. and what order do i need to put them on. I saw the list after entering my service tag number but there is 47 different ones? any help will be much appreciated

    Either:

    A. Use the driver CD Dell sent
    B. Download all that you see important (usually give top priority to network related drivers as those will get you online).

I do not have the cd dell sent. I have done this before with a laptop but I know you can screw it up if not careful so just wanted to know the exact drivers I need and the order?

Use the DELL CD or download the latest from support.dell.com. ( Link to XP drivers for b130)

Any order should work, but generally it is better to install Chipset drivers first (if there are any), then VGA, sound and other device drives and finally applications like Quickset and Synaptics touchpad etc..

You should be able to check out the original configuration of your laptop on Dell's website if you enter your Service Tag. This should help you out with which drivers you need.

Also, I notice one of those is just a Diagnostic Utility and the other one is only for Japan. Since you are unsure, I would suggest downloading all 7 just to be safe.

    Do this one first:

    Chipset
    http://support.dell.com/support/top...c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~mode=popup&file=149851

    Video http://support.dell.com/support/top...c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~mode=popup&file=170751

    Audio
    http://support.dell.com/support/top...c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~mode=popup&file=235761

    LAN Internet
    http://support.dell.com/support/top...c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~mode=popup&file=141373

    MousePad
    http://support.dell.com/support/top...c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~mode=popup&file=160150

This is all that you should need. (about the wireless, well which card did you get with your notebook?)

Basically, install windows, then if your internet is working, go to the Windows Update website, and install all available updates for your system.

If your notebook is still running Windows then you can find out what devices you have from Device Manager.
There is only one driver for LAN : Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller
And two for Wi-Fi : Intel or DELL.

You don’t need all of them, only Chipset, Video, Sound, LAN, Wi-fi, and Modem drivers to get all the devices working properly.

before you go through all this, see if you can use the restore partition on the hard drive-press CTRL+F11 when the Dell splash screen appears upon boot up.

@biggaliath, if you are still using the original preinstalled Windows installation, and happy with it, then you can try restore.

But I personally don’t recommend the restoring especially for new DELL consumer line notebooks, because that will put back all the bloat ware originally came with the notebook.
