They are good machines, I bought ThinkPad 3 years ago from the auction and it is working as new (well it fell a few times and I broke PC cards slot), the only thing that you might miss is the possibility of returning the thing (in some cases though). They are good machines, otherwise they would not be selling (and according to sales figures there are tons of those selling all over the place).

The thing with them (I figured for myself) that the new ones cost not much more, so I just go for new machine, so I know it is what I've paid for.

"are good machines, otherwise they would not be selling "

Haha.. That's a terribly irresponsible quote.

As for refurbished machines, it totally depends on the seller. Even brand name manufacturers (i.e. Dell) sell refurbished items that have mixed luck.
I would never recommend going down that path for a computer. It's best to save your money and buy something new. Or buyer beware.

Refurbished Dell computers through Dell's Outlet are fine. That how I got mine. Dell technnicians examine them.

im only considered a refurbished machine for in my books every penny counts, and going off to colledge later this year, id prefer to have as much money in my pocket , even if its only a hundred dollars or so. Since DMB14 you have, and you dont seem to be complaining i feel pretty confident with my discion, thanx for the input.
