Hey guys...so I managed to receive an M1530 for my old 1520. Do I have to give the 1520 back to dell...and how do I do so? What are the consequences of my keeping the 1520? And what would dell do with the defective 1520 anyways?

    Thanks!

What did Dell say? Did you receive this as a warranty replacement?

If they said you can keep both, sell it.Or return it back to them.

If Dell sent the 1530 to replace a faulty 1520 , your already ahead . Check with them , but I`m sure they expect to get the 1520 back.

If there's a return shipping label in the box, then I'd assume you have to send the old one back. If they didnt send a return label, and there's no explicit instructions stating you have to send it back and pay for shipping, then I'd say you get to keep it. Is it worth keeping though? What was the cause for getting it replaced?

Also, possible consequences if you don't ship it back and you are supposed to would be that they will charge you for the new one. You really need to talk to Dell directly about this.

    I'd say you're wrong.

If Dell sent a new laptop as any kind of warranty replacement (which I'm assuming is the case because Dell doesn't normally send out laptops for no reason), they demand the return of the old one, otherwise they'll charge you for the new one.

Just call or chat and ask. But when I got a replacement keyboard, there was actually a note in there saying that if there is no return label then you can keep the old one. Now this isn't a replacement keyboard that we are talking about. But I am leaning towards that is their policy.

In my experience with Dell (on the business side) when replacing any part/equipment under warranty, they send a return shipping label with the box, so the end user/customer doesnt have to pay for shipping. All thats required is a call to DHL to schedule a pick up. Chances are I'm probably wrong about my statement that he should keep it, but without explicit instructions from Dell, I'd hold on to it, and if they end up billing for it, I'd just ship it back.

Speaking from experience as well, replacement parts come with a return label 99% of the time. When I had my m1210 replaced with an m1330, I didn't get a shipping label included with the laptop, however that didn't mean I wasn't still expected to send it back. One call to Dell and I had a label emailed to me which is what I suggest the OP do as well. Easier to just return it now (since it's probably not yours any longer if you received a replacement) than to drag it out until a later date when Dell finally catches it (and they will).

It really blows my mind as to how many people seem to have no moral issues with keeping things from Dell which don't belong to them. I just don't understand the logic.

What the hell, I love the skeeves on this place. Ostensibly, the original laptop was defective in an unacceptable manner. So much so that you wanted a replacement. Now you have it. SO FRIGGIN' RETURN THE ORIGINAL. Seriously, who raised you guys? A pack of racoons in the dump or something?
