Hey guys. DHL just dropped off my LED 1530 about an hour ago. So far all I can say is WOW!! Absolutely amazing screen quality. I guess I am one of the lucky ones as I only order this last Thursday night. Got here in less than 1 week!

If anybody has any questions let me know.

That would be the LED LCD with 1440x900 resolution, right? Would you recommend that over the full-high definition 1920x1200 LCD Dell offers for the XPS? I'm going to be ordering in a little while and those are my two choices for screen resolution.

Yes...1440x990. I have not seen the 1920x1200 in person so I really can not say. I do know however, that I am impressed with the LED so far.

Okay. Well, it's $50 more expensive then the 1920x1200, but I assume that's because of the LED. So, in essence, is the LED worth another $50? OTOH, for what I need the laptop for, 1920x1200 is quite possibly overkill already. I think I'll just go for the 1920x1200 and wait for it to arrive.

To me, the 1920x1200 would make things kind of small, but this has been hashed out many times on here before. I am extremely happy that I went with the LED 1440x990. This res works perfect for my applications.

I can deal with things possibly being kind of small on the screen for not shelling out the extra $50. There are ways around that anyway.

Congratulations! Can you post some pics about the thickness of your screen?
    questions:
    1. What's the manufacturer of your LED screen?
    2. I guess LED screen will be thinner than CCFL screen. Am I right?
    3. Is the LED screen grainny?
    4. Is there obvious leakage of light (light leak from black screen )?

    1) If you can let me know where to find the manuf. I will take a quick look.

    2) The screen does appear to be thinner. I will take measurements for you guys tonight when I get home from work.

    3) Absolutely no grain to the screen at all.

    4) No leakage detected anywhere.

    For the hardware ID:

In Device Manager expand Monitors and double-click on Generic PnP Monitor. Click on the Details Tab and change the Property box to Hardware Ids.

    Part number:

Log on to your Dell account, go to Support, My Systems & Peripherals and enter your service tag. You will be able to see all part numbers for what's in your system.

    Thanks

I ran a build this morning and the only options were 1920x1200 (waaaaaaay too small for a 15.4" screen; tiny even at 17"; great at 24'") and 1440x900 LED, which isn't hi-rez enough. No 1680x1050 option available.

    The brand is CHI MEI.
I heard the CHI MEI LED is thinner than toshiba LED on xps m1330 (5mm vs. 7mm).
Look forward to your measurement about the LED on m1530.

ps. I prefer 1280 LED more than 1440 LED, because I think the low res benifits both eyes and 3D games. However, I think 1440 is absolutely good. Your screen seems very perfect. Cong, again^_^

In fact, it's a big screen factory in Taiwan.
I cannot tell you whether it is good. It supplies a lot of screens to many notebook manufacturers.

I haven't heard complains about CHIMEI LED screens on m1330. Thus I think CHI MEI should be good.
And, m1330 with CHI MEI LED screen is thinner than m1330 with toshiba LED by 2mm. I don't know why, and the difference of quality, but I prefer thinner one, if they have equal qulity.

I don't think it's possible that the CMO LED is thinner than the Toshiba LED because they both fit into the same screen casing and bezel (some pople have had different LED screens swapped into their laptop). It's the casing that determines the thickness so perhaps the screens inside the casing can be slightly thinner, but it will make no difference to the dimension of the actual latop. On the 1330 it is the CCFL screens that are thicker than the LED screens. Period.

The 1330 has 3 types of LED screens available the CMO, the Toshiba, and the Samsung. Reports have the CMO being the least favored, the Toshiba being more favored, and the Samsung being the best of the three. Many say the CMO is just fine though. I have the Toshiba and I like it but viewing angles are kinda weak. CMO's angles are supposedly a bit better but less overall screen quality. This may or may not be the case with the 1530 of course. If it looks good to you then enjoy. I like the LED battey savings for sure!

One guy said that after his 1330 with CHI MEI LED was returned, his new one with toshiba LED is thicker, about 7mm (the original one is about 5mm). I donnot know whether there were some mistakes with his measurement, but someone else confirmed the thickness difference between LED screen in 1330.
I donn't personaly confirm it. However, I think it maybe true. Maybe the reason is only the improves of screen case. (Donot you think the screen case is somebit soft with LED?)

Thank you for your information about the LED screens on 1330. Thus, on 1330, SamSung>toshiba>CHIMEI, right?

Every Panel manufacturer makes good and bad panels really. Samsung's actually known to make the best panels in the industry; the bad panels found on the m1530 was a sort of a kink in the trend. I have haven't heard too much about CMO (Chi Mei Optroelectronics) but I know that they mostly produce panels for other companies' monitors. For example, Dell does not make panels, they buy panels from companies such as CMO, Samsung, LG, Tosh, etc.

Regarding the quality of CMO panels, I haven't done much research on it, but a few months ago when I was going to buy a 22" monitor, I looked into the Samsung 226bw, and found that it was plagued by poor CMO Panels. Why doesn't Samsung use their own panels in their own monitor products? They do, but they sell too many of them, and as a result they cannot meet the demand for their own product. So they use other companies' panels in some of their monitors.

Anyway, congratulations on the laptop, can't wait to see your review/pics
