I'm on my desktop right now writing this brief review about the 1420.

    Out of the box:
It felt a little cheaper than my previous e1705 (hard to explain, you would have to hold them one after the other to understand). The plastic of the palm rest bends a bit.

    Screen:
My worst fear was the LCD Screen. To my surprise, the screen is very good. I have the standard 1280x800 anti-glare and I am very happy with it. No backlight bleeding. No dead pixels. *I will check to see what brand it is and update you guys*

    Sound:
I've listened to about 2 songs, and there is about 1-3 skips during playback (the skips are less than or equal to 1 second, but you will notice if you are an audiophile. Speakers are fine for a laptop this size, I'm obviously spoiled by the 2.1 speaker system in the e1705.

    Battery:
I have the 6 cell and it lasts just over 3 hours (with 8400m gs). Yes, it has the loose battery problem, but like everyone said, it can be fixed with maybe 1-3 layers of electrical tape.

    Headphone Jack:
The hiss, yes, it's true. When you have the headphones plugged into the jack, you can hear some interference. When you play music LOW enough, you can hear the interference. You have to listen very carefully if you have the volume on medium to hear the interference. Still a bit annoying.

    DVD:
WTF. Who said this thing was loud (heard a lot of complaints about it being loud)??? This thing is quiet. My e1705 was LOUD, this 1420 DVD is silent compared to it. The movies play a bit pale in color (obviously the monitor's fault or graphics card).

    Temperature:
The computer heats up fast, again I'm comparing this to my old e1705. Probably because it's so small.

I've only had this for about 45 minutes. So we'll see what happens.

I'm very disappointed, the LCD is a CMO. I'm just glad it has no defects, I'm shocked this is a CMO. The colors are a bit pale compared to my other SEC laptop screen, but it works.

    2.0 GHz Core 2
1280x800 anti-glare (perfect size, glad I didn't go with the 1440x900.. would be too small)
    128mb 8400m gs
1GB RAM (I'll be ordering my 2GB from Newegg soon)
    320GB HD
    Dell Wifi
    Bluetooth
    DVD Burner
    Webcam

    Am I forgetting anything?

Holy man, you been saying that thing was coming for ages so it seems. AND IT FINALLY CAME WOO!

How long did it take? Feels like months!

Sounds like you're overall pleased with the machine. And yes I fully understand what you mean by 'feels cheap'.

I said the same about mine, it felt like a Razer cell phone at first, but it has some weight to it and felt solid so I was happy.

My anti-glare is CMO as well. They're really not as bad as some say.

I ordered on Dec 20, so it took about two weeks. The estimated ship date was January 18, so I'm happy. LOL. Yeah, the laptop seems good so far, hope it lasts a long time.

How can you check what BIOS it has while you are in Vista? I know the BIOS is displayed when the computer is turned on, but is there a way to check in Vista?
