So I received my Vostro after the DHL guy left.. so many problems I'm FREAKING OUT:

    a) Screen is grainy and cracked
    b) Battery is wobbly as hell
    c) CPU whining like a whistle.
d)Instead of 2GB ram, it came with 1GB
    e) Got Vista Premium instead of Windows XP
    f) I get BSOD on every other bootup
    g) Instead of the 8600m gt, integrated.
    h) the screen is wobbly
    i) the body has fingerprints on it

WHAT THE HELL. @(*@ YOU DELL AND YOUR POS )@*@*

I really hope I'm imagining this.. this is UNBELIEVABLE.

Did you look at the packing list and see if it is even yours? I cannot believe things would be that far off. Cracked/damaged screen maybe in transit, but the rest makes no sense!

Shipping address is correct, and I'm looking @ my order on Dell's website, which is consistent with the packing list, BUT the specs are WAY off.

sounds to me like a packaging employee just mixed up two notebooks...screen prob got messed up in transit. So it was just one mistake on dells part. But on the other hand someone got a good deal :p

Just call them and tell them whats up...may be you can get some free upgrades or a dell gift card.

I'm surprised you even made it past the cracked screen. I probably wouldn't have even booted the damn thing.

Well thing is that Dell had been slow for the last couple of years. Sales had been declining and I'm sure the build houses and other departments were not as busy as they are now.
Sales last Q alone were like +43% which in the sales is A LOT.

So, my guess is that all these places are now swamped with orders and, more orders = more mistakes.

It sucks balls but you're just gonna have to wait and have them fix it.

Remember to ask for some sort of reimbursement for the error, they're pretty good about giving out credits/coupons.

Can somebody please ban this guy? Take a look at some of his other gems:

    1) "Are all Dell Online REPS this retarded?"
    2) "Screw Dell, screw DHL.."

And now this... I can't believe you guys are actually sympathetic -.-

If his story is true, it's a shame, but I certainly wouldn't sell my Dell shares based on his story as it's a one in a million for an order to be that badly messed up, unless he just got somebody else's laptop in packing, which I still think is highly unlikely.

I did happen to have an interesting shipping mess-up from Dell with my Timbuk2 bag (actually, it seems that someone else ships them on Dell's behalf, not Dell's own warehouse) - the box came addressed to me, but the inside packing slip had some woman's info on it.

I've been meaning to call Dell about it, but I'm waiting to decide if I want a replacement first, since not only is my left hinge "gappier" than the right, but I can see the teeth between the XPS bar and the base plastic as well.

Also, the bottom of the "X" of the XPS logo on the back of the screen has come off, or was never there, as it is gone, and I can't find it anywhere.

    Hello,

This is Richard from Dell's Online Community Outreach. The Vostro in question, is it the one that you spilled ice cream on, or was it the one you overclocked the NVIDIA video card thus causing the system to smoke. If it is a third Vostro system that you own that you are referring to, please pm me and I will try to assist.

    Greatest regards,

    Richard B

Yes. Kailoth is (apparently) a troll. This is just one in a series of posts like this from this guy. Maybe he's angry at Dell for some actual event in the past, or maybe he's just a fan of some other company/laptop platform, and wants to try and convince people he made the right choice instead of dell, I don't know.

But he needs to stay away from the ice cream.

If i had such a horrible experience like that , i would just ask for a refund and send the system back .
only issue with my vostro is the headphone jack noise which i can easily ignore since i never use headphones anyways .
If im desperate enough ill just buy myself a Soundblaster X-fi express card .
