I just got my E1505 today, and it's awesome, but I have two issues that I thought were strange:

    1) My DVD burner is a sony, and it's extremely fragile. When I eject, I get this really flimsy cd tray that feels as if it were missing a few screws. When I insert a disc, it makes this Whrrrrrrr sound. I'm sorta worried about that. Is it worth asking Dell to replace my cd drive? I really want to get it replaced to avoid the trouble in the future, but I don't know if it's gonna b a lot of hassle.

    2) I have a 100GB 7200rpm hdd, but why is it so hot? I touch the area, and it's like burning hot. I can't even put my finger on it for 5 secs.
It's from Seagate, which should be pretty good.

Aside from these issues, the laptop is great. I got a PERFECT LCD w/o any light leakages/ dead pixels

So do you guys think if i ask dell to change drives for me, is it possible to just get the drive sent to my doorstep, or do I have to send the entire thing in?

    thx

I have a NEC dvd-rw drive and it's not flimsy but it does me a hell of a lot of noise. I think all notebook optical drives are kinda noisy just by design. But if you're concerned try to get a new one. I'm not sure about the brand. As far as the hdd goes, please give us some temps like dudesdudets mentioned. I don't believe that it should be super hot, unless your doing alot of reading/writing with inadequate ventilation.

You can find out your hdd temp using NHC for one. There are several different programs, just look here or on google.

    It's a little bit hot.
Try I8kfangui to manually control the fan and try not to block the air vent on the bottom.
My E1505 with hitachi 5400 RPM stays around 32-40C.

I set I8k to read my hd temp and it reported back 49 degrees saying it could read it. But it was bogus cause it still reads 49 whent booting up the laptop cold. ^^
