Recent XPS 1530 LCD's OK??

Greetings - I received my H-P dv2700t yesterday - but sold it today Very nice LCD, very good construction quality - but (and I didn't know this before I bought it) XP will not work correctly on it b/c H-P messed with ACPI in the BIOS. So - I've priced out a nice XPS 1530 on AAFES for a little over $1250 - with a 1440x900 LCD. Before I click on the buy button - does anyone have any info about the quality of recent LCD's on these? Thanks in advance...

 

I've heard somewhere else on this site that only new 2nd generation LG screens are now being fitted on the M1530.

Samsung & Sharp are both rubbish on the M1730, it could be the same for the M1530.

LG is good on the M1730 though.

 

Any idea where you heard that?

 

well...i can say this....

i ordered on 1-17 recieved my laptop on the 28th and mine is beautiful, dont know if its lg, havent checked yet or cared...its just beautiful.

in addition to that, i havent heard anyone bad mouth their screen since the day I ordered mine. I've been looking around this section (especially the order status thread) every day sicne and haven't seen anyone complain about a bad screen since that day.

thats not to say there haven't been...but I haven't heard a complaint since then......

so maybe their recognizing now and are really looking at them before sending systems out

I ordered on Sunday Jan 27th. It shipped Wednesday Jan 30th.

I'm getting a Chungpow. (I know that's not what it really is, but I'm gonna go with it since I don't care to search for the real name) I'm guessing if they did switch to all LGs, I missed it by a day or two. >_<

It should arrive on Monday, so I'll let you know how that one looks. From what I've read, you have a really good chance at getting the LG if you order the 1440x900. (which I didn't)

 

Thank-you very much for the responses - I would really like to get one and the 8600GT now only adds $100 to the price (maybe its always been that way but I thought it was $200 before). I like my 1520 and intend to keep it - but it is a real brick for size and weight. One last question - does anyone know if the Dell Travel power supply (not quite the right name - sorry) that works on the 1520 (for charging only - wattage isn't high enough) will work on the 1530?? I will keep checking for updates! Thanks again...

 

I do it! Great computer I haven't heard anything about the 1440x900 LCD's...

 

I'd like to know this too. It sort of sounds like Dell is sending out LGs for replacements and the Chinese brand more often then samsungs.

I tried asked Dell CSR and tech support, but of course they would not tell me.

 

Well just for the record, my replacement done yesterday was a Samsung despite me asking for an LG.

They are not sending out LGs. In fact from speaking with a manager at XPS support I was told that upper management has specifically told them to stop swapping screens. They are saving major bucks going with the Samsungs and upper management has firmly said that is what they are using. They are making special cases for those who spent big bucks or complain enough without being a jerk.

 

You can look it up on the dell site to see your specific parts in your computer.

This new order for 1440x900 was built with LG Phillips display.
It was just built.

 

Let me rephrase. They have not disconntinued the Samsung. They are still sending out 1680x1050 WSXGA+ grainy screens. I'm glad you got a nice looking WXGA screen but many others are not.

 

Mine arrived last Friday with a grainy Samsung.

Jack, you have to get the Service Tag of the machine and then look up the warranty information using that. There will be an option to view original configuration and in that detail, similar to what you have posted there, will be the actual screen model.

 

On the order you only have generic assembly numbers. When you know your service tag number you see a more detailed component list on the website. I found out my service tag by calling customer care. When you know the service tag, go to support.dell.com and click on "technical support" (upper left) then click on "System Configuration" (left) and enter your service tag.

Received my m1530 with a 15.4WXGA+ a few days ago, happy to say it's an LG and it looks wonderful, I think most, if not all WXGA+ screens are LG, I havn't seen one person mention a samsung on this screen type yet (at least not for the past month). Once you start going for the WSXGA+ that's when most people are getting the poorly coated samsung screen.

Once the laptop ships, you can see your service tag code online, just enter in the order number from the support screen (it's been posted here a few times).

One of the steps in prodution is called kitting, they take that more detailed list and put all the parts in a bin. When all parts are kitted, they go to assembly. One thing that I think some people don't understand is that part replacement is different. Sometimes it is just an individual part that needs replacement, so the original part matches the replacement. Sometimes that part may no longer be available, so a different equivalent part is used. But in many cases the replacement is a service kit, this is again a higher level assembly, for example a processor kit might include thermal grease.

 

Thats exactly right, I was handling a 1530 LCD case today and when I tried to dispatch out the LG screen itself, the dispatch changed to a service kit with the Samsung SEC screen being sent, I realized I could not send the LCD alone so I ordered the remaining parts of the LCD kit along with the LG screen and it went through just fine.

 

Only 1280x800 screens are good as far as M1530 is concerned!

 

A lot of people seem to be happy with 1440x900 on M1530.
Either you're not reading what people say or are making stuff up.

You don't have to contact a rep to access the info,just log on to your acct Dell's website,about 3/4 down the page is a link labeled My systems and peripherals,click on it,then click on "add new systems",it will then bring up the service code for your new machine.
