well i overcame my fear of having to carry the 1520 home in a wheelbarrow and bought the laptop yesterday.

    So far so good,
but i have a few questions i hope some of you may able to answer
1.) Am i Ok to place this laptop on carpet/sofa/bed.
My old laptop had to be kept on a hard surface and it was a pain having 2 take a portable desk around the house.

2.) What driver would be best for the graphics card currently -
    (nvidia 8600m GT)

3.) What the hell is the odd ticking noise!?!

    Thank you

The ticking noise is the hardrive. mine does it too.
apparently the hard drives are generally quiet....but i hear the that the hitachi HDDs are the loudest. And I have a 7200rmp hitachi with mine which sucks. Also I hear vista is the reason for the constant access, even with indexing off.

    1. it is not advised to keep any laptop on a soft surface like that because of heat...that being said, i do it anyways.

    2. i stick with the dell drivers because they have the least issues. the modded drivers sometimes give people start/resume issues, but might give a little boost of performance.

    3. the ticking is most likely your hard drives head parking itself when it is not in use. annoying, yes, but its not a problem.

    thanks for the quick response..
    i paid £690 for
    t7300 @2.0ghz
    250gb 5400
    15.4 1440 res screen
does that sound like an alright price or have i had the wool pulled over my eyes?
tbh i dont find it very loud. my old laptop (amilo a1630) sounds like a lawn mower compared to the 1520.

    That is a good price.

The fan vent is on the left side I believe, so it will do just fine.

I'd stick with the default drivers. If you wanted a performance increase, you should download the drivers off of laptop2video.com

thats good to hear.. i thought i may have paid a bit too much as a similar model but with a bluray driver sold on ebay for £650.

Yea default drivers are fine for now i guess.. im only playing Counterstrike:Source and World of warcraft at the moment.

not true, the intake is on the bottom, and the exhaust is on the left side. it cant blow air through to cool if it is being covered on the bottom. Also, the ram module gets really hot on the bottom if it is covered.

    169.04 from laptopvideo2go.com. Just install properly I don't think you'll get problems.

What version of drivers do you have? When playing games, do make sure it has good airflow to make sure it gets the heat out.
