Loving my laptop now the case squeak has long gone. But one software issue has been bothering me and I can't figure out how to adjust it. I looked through the SigmaTel control panel settings, and no luck there. What's the issue?

Why are there 100 freaking steps to the volume bar? My volume up/down buttons on the case take a ridiculous amount of time to actually have an impact on the volume because there are so many steps. Is there anyway to make each button push represent 10% instead of 1%, of anyway to reduce the volume bar from 100 steps to 10 steps?

    Just wondering...
    Thanks in advance,
    Ash

I want to know this too. I have a Dell 1525 and the touch pad keys are very slow to do anything. However my friends 1420 is ultra fast to change volume, and its actually a useful feature.

Another problem I have is the Volume and WAV volume is not linked - there a way to set it so when I press the volume up touch button that it moves both the volume and the WAV?

Odd...I thought that the 1420 has the same SigmaTel audio chip the 1330 has. Which means they probably have the same drives, so should have the same number of steps. I suppose I could look into this a little...I'll let you know what I find if I have the time.

Why don't you just crank up the wave volume?

I actually want the opposite when I'm listening to headphones.
Especially when using Dell media direct to play DVDs. One or two steps increase even with wave volume set to a minimum could easily blow your ears off.

Interesting. This would support what Silent Exception said about it being a Windows issue rather than SigmaTel.

Doesn't holding the button make the volume level fly up and down? If I press the volume button on my 1700 it changes a notch but if I hold it it flies and takes 3 - 4 seconds to go full range from loudest to quietest.

It does, yes, but that's part of the problem:
if I want to change the volume by only a marginal amount, I must push the button about 10 times. If I hold the button down, I can easily go from 10% to 80% volume in a second. I'd much rather have something in between the two.

Perhaps I have a bad media key, but when I press and hold the volume key, it takes 13 seconds to travel down the whole way. Is this a driver thing I can tweak?

Otherwise the buttons work great - on the first try I can use play/pause, eject, etc with no hesitiations. Even volume up and down work instantly when pressed individually, but spanning a long volume change just takes forever!

Mine takes about 5 or 6 seconds. I don't see a way to adjust the speed in any of the driver settings, so I'm not sure why yours takes so long.

On my 1525, it takes 10 seconds to go from all the way soft to the highest volume... :-\

Not to threadjack but while we're on audio is there a way to easily switch between laptop audio and hdmi when conntected to tv? (I have the 1530.)
