I am going to obviously upgrade the memory on my Dell from newegg. I read that it does not void your system warranty, but Dell obviously does not cover your ram. However, if you mess up your system while installing the ram then you void your warranty?

As grid said, your warranty will be voided if Dell determines that your new sticks caused the problems. Also, if you damage the notebook while it is open, your warranty won't cover that.

The limited warranty basically covers any problems that are caused by your orginial hardware.

you shouldnt have anything to worry about though, ram upgrades are easy, and it would take a good bit of talent to total your laptop while doing it, after you've installed it, and everything seems to be running okay, run memtest386 , if you can run the gauntlet with that, your set, if it fails, remove one stick and run it again to find out wich one is bad, and exchange it, and dont worry about it, use common sense ,take proper static precautions, and dont use a hammer or power tools and all should be well
