I am thinking of reformating the drive on my e1705, but wondering if reformat will void any kind of warranty.
    Thanks

Nope, your warranty doesn't cover software, so you can add/remove any software as well as reformat.

If you don't delete the restore partition you can always go back to factory hard drive image. Not that I'd really ever see a point in doing that, but it is an option.

Me, I would not keep the recovery partition as your system would run better with spyware then the restore image. LOL

The problem with keep the restore partition is that it will not work if you reformat or edit the partitions. You can supposedly burn it to a disc or possibly edit the partition table to get it to work, but as long as you have the XP disc, you shouldn't need the restore partition.
