    Hey folks,

    1) Will i have any problems using a generic Windows MCE 2k5 cd - everyone seems to specify dell disks, just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any freak compatibility issues.

    2) I got the 80gb 5400 SATA drive from dell - will Windows MCE 2k5 recognize serial ata, or do would i need additional drivers for that?

Thanks, and sorry for the rudimentary q's :)

    Cheers,
    DocTemp

I only recommend using the dell disc because that is what the key matches too. If you have a key to your MCE disc, then you can install it without any problems. There really isn't any difference between it and the disc sent from Dell, except that the disc from Dell is an OEM version, so you can only use it on dell systems.

You can't use the MCE disc that you have with the key on your laptop.

SouthernGirl - thanks for the reply on the CD - one last thing, there's no mention of drive type in your walkthrough (ATA, SATA), and i was wondering if anyone's come across driver/bios issues....

I haven't seen any issues, but I'm not 100% sure.

yes, SATA requires a different install path. you have to load the drivers during the install otherwise it will crap out on you
