A friend of mine recently reformatted their old Inspiron 6000 and in the process wiped the DSR Partition.

We've installed a new copy of XP and everything is working fine except the wireless networking. It doesn't seem to think there is a wireless card.

I can't turn on the antenna, I can't scan for wireless networks, nothing. No amount of installing wireless card drivers from the Dell website has done anything and trying to run the "Dell Wireless Utility" software literally does nothing (Double click, hourglass icon for about 1 second, then nothing).

Any suggestions? This is extremely frustrating for us both, especially my friend because they only have wireless internet at their place.

    Help!! Thanks!

    Hey Joker,

it's funny, my buddy had the same problem last night and brought his inspirion 6000 over to my place to fix it today. I happened upon your post and thought it funny that two people with the same computer had the same problem on the same day and had their friend helping them. Your friends name isn't Mark is it?

Anyway, thought I'd let you know that we fixed it here by downloading the Intel Drivers on the Dell Download site. (It's the second one from the bottom.)

I know that you said you tried all the drivers already, but just wanted to throw that by you just in case you skipped over those ones at first like we did.

it was almost 80mb but as soon as we transfered the file and installed it, we had the wifi running instantly.

    Well, good luck to you!

If you do have the 2200b/g or 2915a/b/g card, the actual Intel drivers might be better than the old one that are on the support Dell website.

Either way, both work. Just another suggestion though...

    jje, thanks!

Worked like a charm! I entered the computer's "service number" when choosing drivers, so I didn't have the option of the Intel for some reason originally.

ccbr01, thanks for the help, even though it turns out I didn't need it!
