I just ordered a Dell E1505 notebook from AAFES.com (military only store).

I ordered the symantec recovery cd and not the "genuine xp cd". Can I still do a reformat to get all the crap off and it be just as good if I use the XP CD? I can't change the order through Dell (terrible service imho) because of the nature of it being ordered through the government.

So if I want the XP cd I have to completely cancel the order which gets messy because of 2nd party and re-order the system. Do I need to use the XP CD and the "Cyberlink PowerDVD and Sonic Recordnow" like the sticky guide says?

Is a reformat worth the trouble? And can I get the "Cyberlink PowerDVD and Sonic Recordnow" stuff from dell for free or will they charge me?

You don't need to change or cancel the order. If you call Dell after yu receive your laptop, they will send you the Genuine XP disk (i don't know if they will charge you the $8 or not).

Either way, I would strongly reccomend reformatting anything bought from Dell. They crap they load it up with is crazy.

You can get the cyberlink powerdvd and sonic for free. Also if you have XP Home/Pro, make sure to request Dell Media Experience. It loads media direct when you are in XP, so you'll need that if you plan on using Media Direct.
