Need a dvd player because Media Center is showing it's missing codex.

Anybody know if there is a site to download without contacting Dell and waiting 2 years?

You could download a free dvd decoder and player, but the only way to get Cyberlink PowerDVD is either to pay for it (can order it on their website and download it) or contact Dell. Probably be easiest to use Chat.

LOL, yeah. Dell has this messed up pretty bad.

You have to request Cyberlink and Sonic (if you plan on using Sonic) separately. They don't just automatically include in your backup disks. You can't buy these disks in your configruation either. The only option you have is to call/chat with dell and request it.

Well you can download the Sonic software from Dell's website but I use Nero 7 Ultra so I don't care for the Sonic software. I would like to know why they don't allow the cyberlink software to be downloaded. Maybe because they can't really control who downloads it.

I'm a Nero user also, so I can't stand Sonic. The Sonic software on Dell's website is only updates. It doesn't contain the install software, so you still have to have the disk to install it.

You could try to download free trials and if dell provided the keys for Cyberlink and Sonic, you could just enter them in. Unfortunately Dell doesn't provide keys either.

Any idea on programs that will find the keys before I reformat? I'll try searching the registry to see if anything is there that I can find.

Well a minute into searching I found a ket that says CDKey, Is this too obvious? It is a cd-key type number so I guess it must be it!! I guess I will know when I go to reformat and it will either work or it won't.

I doubt it because I think it is similar to the XP disk. The Cyberlink cd is probably an OEM version, so I doubt that it even has a key. It probably installs when it recognizes the hardware. That's just my guess though.

Alright, I'll be requesting that cd be sent to me too I guess. Thanks for the help!
