Thinking of picking up a Dell XPS 1530 refurbished laptop and applying the 15% off coupon.

Anyone out there with first hand experience about how refurbished laptops are serving you guys? How well do they handle returns and warranty policies?

What actually happens to a laptop that makes it refurbished, and is it reliable afterwards?

Lastsly, I know Dell has been using some bad nVidia cards, does this apply to the 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT as well?

I greatly appreciate your help, thank you.

Mine is perfect!!! I just love it and mine was a refurbished one. I save £700 :)

Long story and infact my scenario was a "special one" bcoz it was 14-day returned stock but still I mean £500 for a £1200 Laptop... :D

I bought one refurb notebook and two refurb desktops and they came in new condition. Most of the time they are just returns since they can't sell them as new again. They come with one year warranties, but you can add-on. The GeForce 8600M GT is one of the affected cards, though you shouldn't worry greatly about it.

My current M1530 was purchased new, but my previous XPS M140 was from Dell Outlet. The M140 was perfect in every way, and is still in use (2.5 years later) by my wife. No problems.

Regarding what makes a system refurbished, back when I ordered the M140 the criteria was:

Customer Ordered New: This was a notebook that was ordered and either (a) never shipped, or (b) shipped but returned without having been powered on (they can tell).

Refurbished: Shipped to a customer and ultimately powered up at least once, but returned for some reason. Maybe there was something wrong with it, maybe they just didn't like the feel of the keyboard or something. But once it's powered up by a customer, it's "refurbished" whether or not there was actually anything wrong with it.

Scratch and Dent: A refurbished unit that has some sort of cosmetic imperfections that don't affect performance.

Now, maybe the actual critera has changed since I last ordered, but that's how it used to be. You could reasonable expect "Customer Ordered New" and "Refurbished" to be pretty much flawless.

After having 1 good experience and one not so good experience that ended great from the outlet, I won't be buying any new laptops from dell. I'm perfectly fine with the cheaper price outlet laptops.

Just got my XPS M1530 from the outlet, it looks practically new, so I wouldn't worry getting one. Besides, you can use the money you save to get a better warranty. :D

You have the same privileges of a new computer, you have the same warranty or you can extend it, you can return it if you don't want that computer. Most of the times those computers are returned within the 21 return period and that is why they are almost brand new.

There is none, they are all for 25% off and 20% off for M1330 only.
