Hello guys
I received my refurbished XPS m1330 today, and I have a question.
When I bought this laptop, it was labeled as "Certified Refurbished". The back lid came with minor scratches but very noticeable and the laptop was somewhat dirty. The screen and the area around the speakers was very dusty and somewhat dirty. I thought that you get these things (scratches) when you buy the "Scratch and Dent" labeled laptops from the outlet. Am I correct?
Before I give them a call, I would like to hear your suggestions.
Thanks in advanced,
hcp

Scratch and dent I believe are new products that are damaged in some way. Refurbished will look used but guaranteed operational.
-
A friend of mine bought a refurbished xps last month and it was also labeled "certified refurbished", and if it wasn't for the refurbished green sticker, you would think it was a brand new system... I thought it was going to be the same when I ordered mine.
Thanks for your input. -
My M1330 refurb was in perfect condition.
-
Well, you could always call up and see. I think the refurbished is kind of a gamble because you can get a system that was returned after a week or one that was returned after several months, but there should be a standard on the amount of damage the refurb systems have.
-
My "certified refurbished" was nearly perfect. A tiny "smudge" on the cover but only noticeable when you look at a particular angle and hairline scratch about 1/2" long on the palmrest. I can also see the "teeth" in the small gap at the top of the LCD but that's more attributable to build quality than user damage.

I will give Dell a call and see what they say...
Thanks for your input guys. -
I called Dell about this issue (too many noticeable scratches and wireless doesn't work) and they they said "we are sorry about it... blah.. blah.."
Anyway, they offered me a replacement system. According to the rep, it will be exactly the same configuration and it should arrive within 10 to 15 business days... I won't be charged for the replacement and I have to send this unit back when I get the other system.
Thanks for your help guys... -
My M1330 refurb came in excellent condition except for few marks on the back lid. I then tried calling Dell to order a replacement cover. They refused to sell the part for me but scheduled an appointment with a technician to come to my house and replace the back lid cover for free.

Hey, at least they are replacing it for you. Hopefully that'll be in good condition

My M1330 is working in perfect condition and came with a LG LCD screen otherwise I would definitively request a replacement system.
I wish you luck on your new computer. -

You know, I've gotta say that I've not heard so many positive comments about easily getting stuff fixed/replaced to customer satisfaction as I have with these kinds of threads about Dell on this website.

Update: The wireless card works fine with a linksys router. I'm now at my parents house and they have an old and westell dual modem/router. My inspiron 6000 and another brand new xps m1330 which both have intel wireless cards work and connect fine, but not the dell 1490 wireless card.
It's weird and I don't why this happen but who knows...
Any ideas on how to speed up the replacement? Has anyone gone through this ordeal before?
Thanks in advanced! -
The webcam was working fine and I can only see my shadow now
I checked the service tag and looks like my warranty started and expired a couple centuries ago
Oh well... Sor, I have a question. What if the replacement is worse or not much different from the current one, can you return it and ask for a full refund? Thanks.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
Not sure what the policy is on refurbs, but I believe it falls under the normal 21 day policy.

I read other posts and they are not that promising regarding replacements... But at least, I'll have an idea of what's coming when I check the order status. It the specs are lower, I'll ask them to cancel and then return this one.
Thanks. -
I've ordered 2 laptops and 3 desktops from the Dell outlet store. Some were labeled "scratch & dent" but every single one arrived in perfect condition. I'm very happy.

I called Dell to verify what's the status of the replacement. I got a nice rep. who told me that the replacement was just initiated and she also said that it's not guarenteed that I will get it in 16 business days, and it could take longer than that.
I told her what happened (laptop had too many scratches and was dirty), and I noticed that the wireless card is picky on which router it wants to work, the webcam malfunctioned (I only see my shadow now), and also the screen started to flicker, especially when it's running on batteries.
She suggested to return the system and get another one later on... I got transfered to returns, and within minutes, the rep. e-mail me a pre-paid ups return label. She also mentioned that since I'm within the 21 period and due to the nature of the problem, I won't be charged the 15% restocking fee or any shipping charges.
I'm now getting ready to drop off this "pandora box" -
Hello guys
I dropped off the laptop on Monday, and they received it on Wednesday. I also got an email confirmation from Dell that they received the item.
When I was checking my dell order status today, I saw an order with the same specs and part numbers. It also shows a "shipped status" and -$$$.
I assume that this is normal and I hope that they're not sending me another crappy refurbished m1330... Am I correct? Thanks in advanced,

Hmm.. interesting discussion. I placed the order for my M1330 yesterday from the refurb outlet. I am just praying that it be in good condition..... Just let us know how your replacement piece is.... I am eagerly waiting for mine.. ESD is coming monday. Cant wait................. The price I paid made me smile.. I hope the machine will also make me smile when I see it...

Guys, I actually changed my mind and refused another replacement. I'm going back to school this weekend and I don't have time to come home and play with the lappy and see what's wrong with it...
Both my Citi credit card and Dell promotional gift card were credited yesterdayThe order that was displayed with -$$$$ was actually part of refund process...
-
My XPS m1330 refurbished arrived today.. ordered on 19th March and delivered today by 11AM in the morning inspite of the fact that I choose 3-5 day free shipping option. Amazing.....
and above all the notebook is looking brand new... as if opening for the first time... I couldnt believe it.... everything working just perfect so far... -
Good for you... I'm glad you got a good one.

got mine a week ago from Outlet UK. It looked as brand new. No scratches, dents, etc. So far so good!!!
Very pleased. I have however noticed that in the UK we do not get the Dell Laptop case and earphone as you guys do in the States.
cheers!!!
