I bought a refurbished 1501 in mid January and the site says it was originally purchased on Dec 7 06. What would make a machine refurbished? Not a big deal, just curious since my machine seems really new.

    A broken machine repaired.
A buyer returned machine because it wasn't what they wanted.

He might have also returned it because he found a coupon that made it cheaper to order

Aren't you entitled to ask them what was the problem with it before?

Yup. You're entitled to ask. Them answering or even knowing is another issue.
