Not always fixed ,sometimes they are just slightly used but I don't like them for several reasons :

    1. There is a chance its a lemon , thats why the previous owner returned it .
    2. Warranty is usually only 90 days .
    3. The refurb discount is usually not enough to justify the risk .

Well, I just got off the phone with one of the customer reps. Im supposed to be getting a system exchange for my less than 1 week old faulty notebook that I have now. They said the system that I am getting is brand new. I confirmed it with two people and both of them say its coming out of Austin, Texas. I live in Canada. I was originally calling for my order # but they didnt have it ready for me yet. They said it takes 24-48 hrs. Strange...when I first placed the order for my faulty notebook that I have right now, the order number came up right away by email, although the status didnt show up until a few days later. Any comments?

1- That might be true, although ppl who had this problem, DELL replaced thier defective ones with brand new ones which's just great deal if you ask me. Mine came with a tiny small scrach on the lid that you can't see till you look for it.
2- all dell inspron come with 1 year warrenty. HP laptops in the other hand come with 90 day warrenty.

3- I got mine 2 months ago for $900 with free shipping ( which's standard for DELL outlet store )

rufurished parts come from Austin, Texas, as do new machines. Not all refurbished parts have been used. For instance, if someone orders a computer and decides not to have it shipped, cancels the order the parts are considered refurbs. What dell likes to call like new. Refurb parts usually carry a 14 day warranty. That is if they are used in a non-dell system. On the other hand, if you stick it in a dell machine they will carry the same warranty as does the machine.

I checked this morning and on my account was the system that I am awaiting for. The only difference with this system I am awaiting for and the defective one I have is that the 1 I am waiting for is like 300 dollars less than the defective 1 I ordered a few weeks ago. What do you guys think? Is this refurb or really what they say it is.. "brand new"? It is a core solo so I am guessing there was a price drop compared to when I bought it in the 2nd week of August. How true and reliable are Dell's words that I am getting a "brand new system"? Any comments and/or opinions I would greatly appreciate.

    Yay 200 posts haha :D

Dell will ship you a brand new machine. It will not contain any "refurb" parts.
