Hi, my apologies for posting this as I am sure it has been covered. However, the search function is not available for some reason. What happens if I refuse a computer delivery? It is a long story but I am trying to sign up for internet access to obtain a $400 discount (in Canada) but I am too late because it had already shipped and I have to do this while the computer is being ordered, apparently. Therefore, I wish to reorder after I refuse the delivery. I just want to make sure there is not a problem with refusing. Anyway, thanks for your help, Yasmine

You should return and reorder instead of refusing delivery to avoid any complications.

I would refuse delivery. What dell does, at least in Canada is they wait until they receive your laptop, then they place your account on hold for 3 weeks to "process" your refund. Your money is essentially in a pool collecting interest for them.
In my opinion that is unethical but unfortunately perfectly legal. If you refused delivery, they cannot legally keep your money that long and would have to process your refund immediately because no good was delivered. If they're going to be that way with your hard earned money, then why not play the same game they do. -
Accept the delivery, contact Dell right away and make arrangements for a return.
If you simply refuse the delivery, it will take longer for your account to receive a credit than to simply accept it and arrange for a return. -
The US has a similar Act. If no product is exchanged, they cannot hold money. Of course Dell may try, but you can demand it be released back to you within 3 business days.
This is one reason Dell does not allow changes to an order once it has been placed. You will accept delivery, then they can hold your money while they process the return. All this money pooled together gains Dell quite a bit of interest.
If you get caught up in the ethics of receiving a product and going through the proper channels of returning, that's fine - just realize what the company on the other end is doing, they're being more unethical than you refusing delivery. -
I'd accept it & then return it.

I would accept it and then return it as well.

Yeah likewise...I would accept it then return it. In fact, if the only reason you are returning the system is because you didn't get the 400 dollar discount, contact Dell customer care and let them know. They could theoretically just process a refund for this amount.

Hi, thank you all for your replies. For those of you that advise me to accept and return, what do you think would happen if I refuse delivery? I am going to try tomorrow to go through Customer Service and I am keeping my fingers crossed but I seem to battle on my hands with Dell every time something like this comes up. Anyway, I will post back with my experiences
. By the way, am I mistaken or is the search function gone? I can't find it anywhere.

If you simply refuse the package, it will probably take longer to process a refund than simply accepting it and contacting Customer Service to return it.

Dell seems to respond to issues with shipped items that have not been received, by telling you to just return the item and reorder. I think it seems like a waste of time but my experiences have always resulted in positive outcomes. I returned a 1420 for a fan issue the day I received it and it was really only a little inconvenient. it seems that some people have good luck with Dell cs and others go through major grief. I can only speak to my own dealings with Dell and have never had a problem with a return.

I got a crappy refurbished xps1330 on a Thursday and decided to return it. I called on Sunday and immediately got a pre-paid shipping label by email, then dropped it off by Monday and by Friday, both my credit card and dell promotional gift card were credited for the full amount
My advice, just accept it and call CS and that's it. -
Much thanks, everyone. I will see how it goes with trying to get the internet discount with cs rather than sales and will demand a return if they don't cough up, lol! Honestly, I don't see why they can't simply give me the $400 when I sign up even if I have already ordered; however, who knows how their systems work or don't work, as the case may be
. Thanks again!

It's been years, but I refused delivery when I first ordered my current laptop and it wasn't a problem. A couple days after I ordered, the price dropped several hundred bucks!
I called Dell and tried to get them to give me the lower price and was told they couldn't do it. I don't recall how long it took to get my money refunded, but I think it was only a day or two after they received the laptop back.

Hi, I thank you all for your time with your replies. Just an update. I phoned this morning re the internet deal. The csr said she knew nothing about it and that I had to contact Telus (which I knew was not true). However, she offered $200 to me so I said yes (why not, lol!). I then phoned again and this time a different csr transfered me to their internet division (I am not kidding, it exists). The internet division guy offered me a $400 gift card for signing up so I am more than good. I swear that Dell is the most confusing company to deal with. I went some time with not getting deals and now they are seeming dropping into my lap. Anyway, obviously, I am more than happy with $600 in my pocket! Much thanks again, Yasmine
