    The first time i started my e1505 i didn't have internet connection and didn't register. And now I have no idea how to do it. I remember that on my old compaq notebook there used to be an icon "RegisterPC" but I can't find such thing on my dell. Anyways does anybody know how I can register my Notebook / Windows. I've read somewhere that you should register within 30 days before the register option expires.

    Odd in that I don't remember having the 'prompt' to register with Dell....???? The only thing I recall wrt Windows is that during the download of any updates it may 'verify' your copy of Windows to confirm it is 'legit'.

    Could you be thinking about some trial software that you may have launched/opened???

    Sorry not to have any 'good' answers for you...

    I don't remember registering mine.... Don't they come registered already? Dells have a service tag number that when ordered online is matched to the information you provide on your account in the ordering process. So I think this is what you call registration. For instance, when you check warranty, it will tell you how many days left you have on it and also will give you details on the original configuration and stuff like that.

    Registering with Microsoft is optional. Activation is mandatory but since you have an OEM license from Dell, you do not need to activate your license.

    OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer

    In the context of Windows XP and licenses, it is one of the many versions(or license) of Windows and is sold mainly to companies who build computers(although you can still by a Windows OEM version online). The OEM version is restricted to be used only with the hardware it is sold with and the support lies with the manufacturer(dell) and not with Microsoft. It is also usually cheaper than the retail version.
