It seems that every time Vista pops up a security dialogue, such as "windows wants to open xxxx" that the screen flashes black for a quarter second before it comes up. Then, after you click OK or Cancel, it flashes black for a quarter second again.

This is the only time this happens.

Is this Vista or my computer?

Just got a brand new m1530 this morning

    Video Driver...

Vista grays the screen and some drivers cause the video to go out for a split second before the effect.

If you have a basic knowledge of your computer just turn off UAC. Most annoying thing in the world.

I did see there is a new driver available through Windows Update but didn't DL it yet...could that fix the issue? If it doesn't, should I not worry about it?

    Thanks everyone.

I would NEVER download a video driver through windows update, there usually already outdated when they are released.

^^^ Not only that, they don't uninstall the previous set. Just installs over your current video card driver (a big no no).

when UAC is on vista switch back to basic from auro whenever the pass is needed..there is a way to turn it off..
go to "Local security Policy" or search it in start menu..
    go to Local policy>security option...
Over in the right hand part of the window, scroll down near the bottom and find the item titled "User Account Control: Switch to the secure desktop when prompting for elevation" Double-click on the item, change it to disabled and then click OK.
this is if you have vista ultimate or biz....

for vista Home basic or premium...
Browse down to this registry key:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]

Right-click in the right-hand pane and create a new 32-bit DWORD value called PromptOnSecureDesktop, setting the value to 0.

Excellent info imar3l ! Works like a champ. I admin about 1600 machines and im putting this setting in there!

I have been annoyed by the UAC flicker but haven't looked in to it at all because I havent had time to mess with it. Thanks!

The the UAC can be annoying but I keep it on with except for my work machine. Microsoft could have done A LOT better with advertising, explanation and educating the public and it would have gone over a lot better. The thing that annoys me the most are the double prompts for some things.... Continue.... Allow.... Duh.
