    Hi,

I'm new here so if this has been asked before, please just point me in the right direction.

I just recieved my new Studio 17. I noticed that there's a lot of trial software on it that I don't want.

Also, I want to partition the drive.

I know that there's a recovery partition on the HD. If I partition and reinstall, will the recovery partition still be there. Will it still work down the road if I need it?

Also, if I reinstall Windows 7 and the drivers and utilities, will it be the same as what I have now?

    Thanks,
    Michael

during the reinstall make sure u do not format the recovery partition and the trial software willno longer be there (assuming u have only two partitions) after reinstall.

Why do you need the recovery partition? I deleted it.

I suppose some people want it for security, although, like you, I deleted mine when I installed Windows 7.

    Same here.I deleted it myself.

Once you re-install your OS,drivers, software, music, pics etc... Just create a hardrive image on an external hardrive with Win7's backup image creator and your set.

You guys that have deleted the partition have you now lost the diagnostics option when you press F12 at boot up? I think that the diagnostics programs are located in the Backup partition. Can you confirm?

    Yes its still there.

Its a BIOS diagnostic program but at the end it gives you the option to boot from the diagnostic partition for windows

So as long as I leave the restore partition along I will be able to use it in the future. Good.

My other question is this. Once I reinstall 7, will it be the same as when I got it from Dell? Will it look the same? Will it have the same settings or is there something Dell does to tweak default install settings?

    Thanks,
    Michael
