I was going to go ahead an purchase a D820 in the coming weeks. I have Xp Pro on my desktop and have the option to get xp or home with media or no media installed on the laptop. I could save money and just get plain old home with no media and then reinstall xp pro with the disk I have. Is there any major benefit for getting a "with media". I assume that means windows media center?
There wouldn't be anyproblems doing this right? I've reinstalled windows on my desktop a number of times.
Thanks.

The "with media" thing means that they include the backup disk to do a complete reformat if you would ever need to (l think). The laptops from dells small business section already come with nearly no bloatware so theres no reason to reformat on a D820. Although it was a different story for me since l had over 70 processes running on my first bootup.

Gotcha. Thanks.

If you want, you could order without the backup CD's and have Dell send them to you afterwards (they usually do it free of charge).
Also, I don't know if you plan on doing this, but on a side note: If Windows XP Pro CD isn't an OEM Disk from Dell, you'll probably be asked to enter a key when installing it on your laptop. You probably already know this, but using the same key twice on different systems is illegal (unless you have a multiple user/installation license).
Reinstalling Windows once you get your laptop. Worth it?
