Removable batteries

Which modern Dell machines have user-removable batteries just like Dell L702x that's of 2012 vintage? They can be swapped in a second. Very convenient for travel if you are away from a charger. Carry a spare or two.

I prefer at least a 17.3" screen.

 

I don't think any do. That ship has sailed in the name of thinness. Thank apple for driving the industry towards that.

 

You can always look at older, high end models that still perform well today with removable batteries.

The other side of the coin is if you buy a great new generation machine you can go 12 hrs plus on a battery anyways.

 

Yeah, those days are not coming back. That is quickly becoming a niche market (get off my lawn crowd!). Same with removable storage in smartphones. The good news is the specs and efficiencies are bettering their-selves every year.

 

Is there a reason they stopped doing this? I always thought this was good because you can remove the battery yourself. Did they do this so they could charge more money for installation of laptop battery or for something else? I did like how you can just remove the battery and put a new one easily in just like that etc.

 

If by removable you mean like the old external detachable ones, yeah those days are over.

You can still replace the battery on newer units it’s not like they are glued in. They’re just inside the casing now. Dell still provides service manuals and at least the ones I’ve seen weren’t even that hard to replace, including my own Inspiron 7577 for example.

 

I have replaced my own batteries in my dells with no issue either. Quite easy actually.

 

Well, especially with a smartphone, it's not really off unless you remove the battery, just the user interface aspect is shut down. It can still be tracked and monitored (both audio and video) while in "Shutdown" mode. Big Brother's ultimate surveillance device!

 

BTW I just picked up a 2015 Latitude 7250 and it has a removable battery.
